Online & Onsite Teaching Library > Additional Resources > Teaching in a Virtual Office

Overview

For all its power and versatility, asynchronous written communication has certain expressive limitations. (See Bridging the Online Communication Gap.) Sometimes you just want to talk to students in real time, answering their questions and giving them more immediate and nuanced feedback.

For these reasons and more, the Academy provides every online instructor with a virtual office. This is an online space where you can work with students in real time, view and critique their work, and discuss issues related to the class. You can, for example, use your office for weekly office hours or hold group critiques where the whole class can discuss their work together.

The Synchronous Learning Services & Resources team provides support for Adobe Connect or Zoom.
